The Doctor will see you now!
Yesterday at SDCC during the Doctor Who panel, the BBC released a new trailer for Doctor Who Series 9!
The new season sees the return of Peter Capaldi as The Doctor and Jenna Coleman as his companion, Clara. There will be 12 episodes and a couple of two-part stories as well. The show will be executive produced by show runner Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin.
The new series kicks off with the Doctor and Clara continuing their adventures through time and space. The Doctor is energized and has a newfound hunger for adventure in the new episodes. While Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, Peter Capaldi discussed series 9 of Doctor Who.
“He’s in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense him running from something, that even he does not yet understand,” he added. According to Capaldi, this search for adventure extends to Jenna Coleman’s Clara, too:
“They’ve suddenly realized that they are the most fortunate people in all of time and space and are hell-bent on adventure. Jenna continues to deliver a beautifully nuanced, complex, and funny performance that marks her out as one of the best companions ever.” He also described guest star Maisie Williams as “a sharp, talented tornado” who “shifts in cosmic ways.”
We will also see the return of some other familiar faces, including Michelle Gomez’s Missy (who we’re guessing will be up to no good) and Rigsy – the graffiti artist from the episode “Flatline,”. Rigsy is notable for helping Clara while the Doctor was stranded in a tiny TARDIS last season. He was a stand out character and almost acted like a companion in many ways. This is a very interesting decision and i’m curious to see what they will do with him. As far as new faces go, Maisie Williams (Game Of Thrones) is joining Doctor Who season nine as a guest star. The only thing we know about her character is that she will “test the Doctor – heavily”. hmmm.
From the looks of it, this season has a truly epic feel. It looks like we will see some old “brilliant” villains and other new villains.
Doctor Who Series 9 will air on BBC America on September 19. (It can’t get here soon enough!) What did you think of the new trailer?
