SANDUSKY, OH – It’s that time of the year folks, when tourists flood the city not just to ride the roller coasters at Cedar Point, but to attend Colossalcon. What is Colossalcon you say? It is a Japanese animation convention held in Northern Ohio during the beginning of June each year, and is truly the kick off to summer!
The convention is held at Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio, which is a rather unique location. Besides having a large convention center, it’s the largest indoor waterpark in the country! Kalahari is only 5 minutes away from Cedar Point, Mills Creek Golf Course and historic downtown Sandusky. It’s also an easy drive to Put-in-Bay as well as Cleveland.
Each convention has a number of panelists, usually featuring notable voice actors and industry guests.
This years guests include Shonen Knife, Johnny Yong Bosch (Power Rangers, Trigun), Steve Blum (the voice of “Spike Spiegel” from Cowboy Bebop, “Wolverine” from several incarnations of X-Men), Matt Mercer (the voice of Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil: Damnation, Captain Levi in Attack on Titan), Jennifer Cihi (Singer/musician – Nickelodeon’s Roundhouse, Sailor Moon), Chuck Huber (Voice Actor/Writer – Voice of Hiei in YuYu Hakusho, Stein in Soul Eater, Kululu in Sgt. Frog, Mohji in One Piece, Shou Tucker in Full Metal Alchemist), Eric Vale – Voice Actor/Writer (Trunks in Dragon Ball Z, Sanji in One Piece, Yuki in Fruits Basket, and Kymblee in Fullmetal Alchemist), Charles Dunbar (Author/Radio host), Sean Forney (Professional illustrator/comic book artist (Zen: Intergalactic Ninja and Archaea for First Comics), Jason Banditt Adams ( Comic Book Author/award-winning illustrator, inker and penciler), Joe Dragunas (illustrator), Samurai Dan (Martial Arts Instructors), 2D6, Chalk Twins (Artists), Symphonic Anime Orchestra, Pixel Vixens, Dj SpeedyCake, Tanuki, Dj Technorch, and MANY MANY MORE!
Colossalcon may be a Japanese anime convention, but there is TONS to do during the weekend. There are costume contests, dances, Panelist discussions featuring anime industry guests, game shows, and a wealth of panels about video games, manga and so much more. There’s also a Dealer’s Room so you can do all of your anime shopping, including hand-crafted goods and art.
If you or a friend love anime then Sandusky will definitely be your destination this weekend!
