In addition to the Paul Feig-directed Ghostbusters reboot starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, Sony is planning to make another male-centric Ghostbusters movie!
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has decided to adopt the Marvel Cinematic model and create an entire universe of Ghostbusters movies, seemingly blowing the series out into a connected franchise. Ivan Reitman (The original Ghostbusters director) and Dan Aykroyd, will help to form what’s being called Ghost Corp. Okay So…what is Ghost Corp? Apparently it’s a “ unit inside Sony dedicated to expanding the Ghostbusters franchise with additional movies, TV shows, and merchandise“.
Sony’s first upcoming project will of course be the female led Ghostbusters reboot. The second movie will be a “male-driven”Ghostbusters film. What’s most intriguing is that Joe and Anthony Russo (whom directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier) are in line to direct. A script will be written by Drew Pearce (who has also penned Iron Man 3, Mission Impossible 5). Also Channing Tatum may star as one of the protagonists in the remake. “It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies,” Reitman tells Deadline.
The project is still in the early stages of development, so things are sure to change. Check back for more news! How do you feel about there being an expanded Ghostbusters universe?
