Like it or not Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has earned $477.2M USD at the global box office. Reportedly they had an estimated budget of $125M USD. Looking at those numbers it’s not really a surprise that Paramount is moving forward with a sequel.
Recently Collider caught up with TMNT producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form to discuss their latest movie Project Almanac. They managed to slip a couple of TMNT 2 answers out of both. The duo stated that the first movie was too jam packed with characters and that Bebop and Rocksteady will be there in the sequel.
“We designed and we did lots of work on all of them and then only so many fit in the box and luckily we have another chance to make another one of these movies and some of those characters that got cut out of the first one can make it into the second one.”
They also gave a brief update on when it will start filming. “We’re in prep right now. We start shooting in New York in April.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 hits theaters on June 13, 2016 (U.S.). Director David Green replaces Jonathan Liebesman and Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec return to write the sequel.
