Gorilla Grodd Confirmed To Appear On The Flash

During an interview with Buzzfeed, DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns said a lot of very interesting things, but one thing stood out.

Johns talked a bit about The Flash on The CW,

“We want to inspire people with this stuff. And we want to get it out there. Like, I can’t believe Gorilla Grodd’s gonna be in a Flash TV show. That’s insane. Like, I say it out loud and I still think it’s insane. But that’s what we want to do; we want to break new ground.”

Grodd’s existence in the show was established in the pilot episode as we saw a gorilla cage torn to shreds with the name “Grodd” on the cage. “We don’t tease for nothing,” Johns’s comment is — unless we’re mistaken — the first official, direct comment that says without qualification, “Gorilla Grodd is going to be on television.”

It will be the character’s first live-action appearance, although he’s appeared in numerous animated projects, both on TV and in direct-to-video feature films. In the comics Gorilla Grodd is a hyper-intelligent telepathic gorilla with the power to control the minds of others. At one time, he was nothing more than an average ape, but after an alien spacecraft  crashes in his African home, Grodd is given super intelligence by the ship’s alien pilot. Grodd starts to develop telepathic and telekinetic powers and eventually wants to conquer the planet when the alien pilot (who is dubbed the leader of his Ape troupe) is killed by prying humans.

I am so excited to see Grodd in a live-action appearence, I wonder how they will handle his character! Either way Barry will really have his hands full with Grodd!

The Flash airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
