The IT Crowd To Be Remade By Scrubs and Community Producers

NBC has committed to a pilot for a remake of the U.K. comedy fan-favorite – The IT CrowdScrubs and Community veterans Bill Lawrence, Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan will helm the project as all three have worked together in the past on Scrubs.

As you can see from the video above, NBC has already tried in the past to make an American adaptation of The IT Crowd, it had a midseason commitment before the project fell apart. At that point, it starred Richard Ayoade (who originally played Maurice Moss in the U.K. IT Crowd), and  Joel McHale, who would go on to star in Community.

The original IT Crowd starred Chris O’Dowd, Richard Ayoade and Katherine Parkinson. It premiered in 2006 and ran for four seasons plus a special. It earned a best comedy BAFTA, International Emmy and Golden Rose awards.

We have good news which should comfort fans of the original U.K. comedy, The IT Crowd creator Graham Linehan is on board for the remake. Lawrence assured fans on Twitter last night, and Linehan himself went on to reassure fans that he was closely involved.

I’m truly excited, The IT Crowd is one of my all time favorites and is comedy gold. I just hope NBC gets it right this time! If you have not seen it – then good god what is wrong with you? It’s available for streaming on Netflix right now.
