Variety reports that Robert Downey, Jr. has joined the cast of Captain America 3!
Downey has been on the talk show circuit recently teasing about the possibility of doing more work with Marvel beyond his current contract. Well it looks like that could be true. By doing his own Iron Man films, he’s earned more money than being in any of the Avengers movies.
His existing deal had him on for only two more Avengers films. One of which being Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers 3, which is expected in 2018.
The Variety report claims that the story will be based on the “Civil War” series. In the comics, the the U.S. government passes a Superhero Registration Act designed to have superpowered characters act under official regulation. Iron Man supports the plan while Captain America opposes it. The series touch upon themes of liberty, moral responsibility, and civil order. This Registration act results in a battle between Marvel superheroes, as each picks a side.
It is rumored that Captain America will be killed off in the Captain America 3 storyline. In the Civil War comic, Captain America is actually assassinated by Crossbones. So it’s a possibility that it could possibly happen.
It appears that Captain America 3, could likely be titled Civil War. Whatever the title may be, it is due in theaters on May 6, 2016.
