Gauntlet had to be one of my favorite games growing up. I can still hear that robotic voice saying “Wizard needs food badly”. I was excited to learn that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a modernized reboot of the classic multiplayer dungeon game.
The original game debuted in 1985. You could select form four characters- Warrior, Wizard, Valkyrie, or Elf. Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses. Once you select a character you must fight through hordes of evil creatures such as ghosts, demons, spiders, sorcerers and skeletons. The objective of each level is to find the exit to the next dungeon while finding special treasures and items. You can also upgrade each characters powers and abilities.
“This new digital version of Gauntlet innovates on past titles while staying true to the brand’s legendary four-player format. Multiplayer gameplay is at the core of Gauntlet’s appeal and now gamers have the option to play with friends and family locally and online.” – David Haddad, Executive Vice President, Publishing Operations, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Gauntlet is rated Mature for Violence, Blood and Gore, with a setting to disable the game’s gore. It is available on Steam for PC, with full support for SteamOS and the upcoming Steam Machiens. The game is developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, and is priced at $19.99.
