Alex Kurtzman Talks about upcoming Venom movie

Is your spidey sense tinging for another Spider-Man movie? Well hold the phone Aunt May because you won’t see The Amazing Spiderman for a while. The Amazing Spiderman 2 sadly did not live up to the box office hype. So what’s the deal? Are movie goers suffering from spidey fatigue? It sounds that way as Sony is pushing back The Amazing Spiderman 3 and focusing on its planned Spider-Man spinoffs.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 producer/writer Alex Kurtzman explained in an interview with MTV the idea of doing Venom as a Spider-Man spinoff movie.

“Venom is sort of the flipside,” explained Kurtzman. “There are certain lines that Spider-Man won’t cross, because he’s Peter Parker, and Peter Parker will only do certain things. And Venom is an entirely different character. Venom in a weird way is the representation of every line that will get crossed, so he’s a much darker character. I wouldn’t even really say more complicated, because I think they are both very complicated characters. I think the attraction for me to Venom is that you can do things that you can’t do with Spider-Man.”

I don’t know about you but i’m excited for a darker Venom. I only hope that careful attention is paid to the character and especially the story. Venom, just like Spidey, is a well loved comic book character. – so don’t screw it up! I just want to see an accurate depiction on screen. I just pray it doesn’t suffer the same fate as TASM2 or that other Spiderman Franchise that had Venom in it.

I forgive you Topher.

So what do you think? Are you confident that Alex Kurtzman will deliver a quality Venom movie?
