Don’t hold your breath Iron man fans. In an new interview with Variety, Robert Downey Jr. Shot down speculation about a fourth “Iron Man” movie.
“There isn’t one in the pipe,” Downey said while promoting his new film “The Judge” at the Toronto International FIlm Festival. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth ‘Iron Man.’”
Downey Jr. has signed with Marvel and Disney for two “Avengers” sequels, which hit theaters summer 2015 and 2018, but has been reluctant to commit to any more superhero films.
So would he “let” somebody else play Tony Stark? Downey laughed off the idea. “I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I’m casting director for Marvel,” he said.
Stranger things have happened but you have to remember that Iron Man gave Marvel its movie legs to continue where it is now. Iron Man is a big money maker and I don’t see him going away anytime soon. In the Comics the Avengers lineup is always in flux and always changing. Maybe Marvel will pass the torch to a new Iron Man? Maybe Tony takes a break and comes back eventually, while another character such as Ant-Man or Doctor Strange is focused on.
